HERspace has arrived: a space created by girls, for girls

Something shifted at Unitas on Saturday.

We officially launched HERspace. Our new girls-only provision designed with girls, for girls. What began as a vision is now a living space filled with energy, confidence and connection.

Over 155 girls attended the launch, many bringing the women who inspire them. It quickly became more than an event, it became a shared moment of belonging and pride.

From the moment the doors opened, the atmosphere was electric. Girls danced, climbed, created, met therapy puppies, enjoyed matcha from the HERspace café and took part in instant-win prizes. But beyond the activity, something more powerful was happening: girls were confidently taking up space in a place built for them.

More than a launch

HERspace responds to a clear need – creating safe, inspiring environments where girls feel supported, seen and able to thrive.

At a time when too many young women are stepping away from community spaces, HERspace is a commitment to doing things differently. It brings together creativity, sport, wellbeing and connection to build confidence and open opportunity.

Shaped by girls, for girls

HERspace has been co-created with the young women who use it. Their voices have shaped everything from the activities to the atmosphere — and that ownership was clear on launch day.

  • Express through creativity, cooking and making
  • Connect through friendship and conversation
  • Be active through sport, dance and challenge
  • Reset through rest and downtime

Whatever kind of Saturday they need, HERspace is ready.

The start of something bigger

The launch was made possible thanks to J Isaacs Charitable Trust, whose transformational support is shaping Unitas’ long-term female engagement strategy, and The Ireland Funds, supporting expanded opportunities for girls in sport and activity.

We are also grateful to ASOS, Boden, Indu and Satuka for helping make the day memorable through their generous gifts for the girls.

But HERspace is not defined by one day. It is defined by what happens next. Every Saturday, every session, every girl who walks through the door and decides she belongs here.

This is HERspace

HERspace is now open every Saturday, 2:30 – 5pm at Unitas Youth Zone.  A space for girls to build confidence, make friends, try new things and take up space, exactly as they are.

Because this isn’t just a programme. It’s a place where girls belong
