Employability

What comes next? Help us help you to get sorted

Unitas Youth Zone’s employability programme is instrumental in providing opportunities for young people to explore their future career pathways, allowing them to access the latest up to date information, advice and guidance. We also provide a space for each young person to brainstorm creatively their own unique approach to their individual needs and the necessary skillset to further develop them for the wider world of education, training, apprenticeship and employment.

We also hope to inspire each young person to recognise their individual and unique gifts, talents and passions, and to embrace them to the best of their ability with a ‘can do’ attitude and perspective.

Our Employability Coordinator Vernon Douglas is here to help and support any young person who wants to think through what comes next.

Who do we support?

We support all Seniors members (age 13 to 19, and up to 25 with additional needs).

How does it work?

  • One-to-one sessions provide support in CV writing, interview role-playing technique, self-confidence, communication, teamwork, leadership skills, personal statements preparation for university application and English and Math Functional Skills up to Level 2
  • Job search, work experience, apprenticeship and training programmes (from 3 to 12 weeks), support with the application process and other bespoke employability services
  • Events and outings for groups to engage with professional organisations to explore work experience opportunities
  • We also host careers fairs, speakers from a wide range of jobs and workplaces and can help you get accredited (eg via the CSCS Card scheme, allowing you to work on construction sites)

When is this all available?

  • One-to-one sessions available from 12pm to 3.30pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays by appointment only. These sessions are primarily aimed at those not in education, employment or training
  • Group sessions and drop-in one-to-ones are available from 4.30pm to 9pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
